Some Tips for Back to School Success!

Getting Ready for Back to School Success

Depending on where you are in the country, August and September usually mean one thing: back to school. Sure, summer vacation is a little less prevalent in southern states (like us here in Texas), but there’s actually a pretty good reason for that. Summer vacation was first instituted to give students time to help out on the family farm.

They would go to school when the farm didn’t need as much work and then spend the summers planting and harvesting crops. Sounds like lots of fun, right? (Modern summer vacation is certainly an improvement.) In any case, these back to school moments can be pretty special.

But going back to school can also be a lot of work. This is especially true if you’ve recently had plastic surgery or you plan to have plastic surgery in the near future. So we’ve got some back to school tips for you that will help you feel great and look great!

Recovering During Back to School Days

There is usually plenty of stuff to be done in those days just before school starts. You need to purchase school supplies and (possibly) new school clothes. In many areas, you must bring your child in for vaccinations and medical checkups and maybe even a new pair of eyeglasses.

The point is that running these errands takes time and it takes energy. And that might not be time or energy you have if you’re recovering from a plastic surgery procedure, such as a tummy tuck or a breast reduction. You’re going to want to take it easy (and running around in your car is not taking it easy).

So here are some ways that you can make these back to school days go a little bit easier for yourself:

  • Get as much done ahead of time as possible: This is especially true for things like doctor’s and dentist’s appointments. Schedule them before your own plastic surgery procedure so you don’t have to think about it during your recovery period.
  • Get some help: It’s not always going to be possible to do everything before your procedure, so make sure you’ve got some help on hand to make sure everything gets done.
  • Shop online: One of the biggest pre-first day of school tasks is back to school shopping. If you’re not really in a state to get to your local Target or Wal-Mart, you can always do your shopping online. Amazon makes this incredibly easy!
  • Stock up on meals: Advice we give to almost all of our recovering patients is to stock up on ready-to-cook meals. These can be meals you prepare ahead of time or purchase in the store to save on time. Either way, you shouldn’t be slaving over a hot stove when you should be recuperating from surgery.

In most cases, you should be ready to get back to normal activities in a week or two, so we’re talking about a very small window. That said, it’s important to keep to your recovery schedule.

Procedures to Get Around Back to School Days

You might be tempted to avoid this recovery issue all together by scheduling certain non invasive procedures around these back to school days. That’s definitely a valid strategy (though, having a plan for any kind of recovery is always a good idea). There are definitely some low-key procedures that you can get that will make back to school an easier event to handle.

First and foremost on the list is the most popular: Botox. This injectable is a great way to get rid of lines and wrinkles in the face. Botox injections are performed incredibly quickly—you can be in and out in less than thirty minutes. This makes Botox a great procedure to squeeze in between busy back to school errands.

The same is true of many of our dermal filler injections. These procedures are designed to be quick and easy. In some cases, there may be some redness or bruising that takes a bit to subside—but that time is usually limited to a couple of days. Other than that, you’re free to pursue pretty much any normal activities.

That means if you get a Botox or dermal filler injection, there’s not much stopping you from getting all of those Back to School errands done!

Life is Busy

Truth be told, your life is pretty busy. If it wasn’t Back to School Days filling your day planner, it would be something else (like work). Dr. Polsen works hard to ensure that patients’ recovery periods are as comfortable and swift as possible. But your recovery is important, and your results often depend on your ability to follow through on that recovery.

Whether you’re working around getting back to school, holidays, or daily life, it’s vital that you put yourself first during this period. Modern plastic surgery has done a great job of making most recovery periods relatively short and comfortable—so you’ll be enjoying your results before you know it!

Whether you’re thinking about plastic surgery in the long term or a quick injection of Botox for the near term, contact Dr. Polsen and the staff at South Shore Plastic Surgery to get started today. After all, now that school’s in session, you’ll have some time to think about you. And as far as we’re concerned, that’s a very good thing indeed.

You might even call that a back to school success.
