Mommy Makeover FAQs

posted in Mommy Makeover by nseben

A Mommy Makeover is one of the most popular procedures sets in the United States today, but many people have Mommy Makeover FAQs that they’d like answered. These Mommy Makeover Frequently Asked Questions range from the simple to the complex. After all, Mommy Makeover is a collection of a few different procedures designed to treat a few different issues—it’s bound to generate some questions.

What is a Mommy Makeover?

As performed in the Houston-Clear Lake area by Dr. Polsen, Mommy Makeover can help you turn back the clock by targeting physical presentations common to motherhood. By combining these procedures, patients are able to feel as though they’ve recaptured the bodies of their youth. In a way, this can help patients feel confident and energized in a way that few other procedures could.

If you have questions about Mommy Makeover, the best source for answers is Dr. Polsen. These FAQs are intended to begin a conversation, not to provide definitive answers. After all, patients will have individual needs and desired—and that means individualized questions.

These common questions are designed to begin conversations. It might be difficult to get a definitive answer for your body outside of a consultation.

What Procedures Are Included in a Mommy Makeover?

There are some common procedures that are typically associated with a Mommy Makeover. Generally, a Mommy Makeover might consist of:

  • Breast Lift: This procedure is designed to return the orientation of the breasts to a more youthful position.
  • Liposuction: A liposuction in this context is usually used to eliminate unwanted and stubborn areas of fat (often those closely associated with motherhood or pregnancy).
  • Tummy Tuck: Because pregnancy (among other factors) can stretch out the skin around the abdomen, a tummy tuck is often included in a Mommy Makeover. This procedure can eliminate excess skin around the tummy.

However, these procedures are not the only ones that can be folded into a “Mommy Makeover,” necessarily. In some cases, patients may want work around the face performed as part of a Mommy Makeover or may want a breast reduction instead of a breast lift (or both). In most cases, Mommy Makeover procedures will consist of the more “traditional” set of procedures (and that’s certainly true for most specials that offer discounts on Mommy Makeovers).

But some patients will want to use other procedures in order to get the desired final results.

Are Mommy Makeover Procedures Performed All at Once?

In most cases, Mommy Makeover procedures are performed simultaneously. That is, Dr. Polsen will perform the breast lift, liposuction, and tummy tuck during one surgical session. That said, some patients do prefer to split up the procedures—although this is relatively uncommon.

Procedures are performed at the same time in order to maximize the efficiency of the recovery period and produce the best results possible. For example, performing liposuction without a tummy tuck would leave significant excess skin (and thus, diminish the final results). Best results are most often achieved when the procedures are performed at once.

Do You Need to be a Mother to Have a Mommy Makeover?

The term “Mommy Makeover” often appears because this trio of procedures—breast lift, liposuction, and tummy tuck—mitigate issues that are common among mothers. However, you do not have to be a mother in order to get a Mommy Makeover.

Indeed, there are many women who have never been mothers who still desire this particular trio of plastic surgery procedures. The reason for that is pretty straightforward: Normal aging can also cause issues in terms of stubborn fat, excess skin, and drooping breast tissue.

Indeed, these procedures are all incredibly popular on their own. “Mommy Makeover” is simply a way to discuss treating some relatively specific signs of aging.

Should I Wait Until I’m Done Having Children to Plan a Mommy Makeover?

Family planning is something that, well, doesn’t always go according to plan. In the case of your Mommy Makeover, however, you should be relatively confident that you are not going to get pregnant or have any more children in the near future.

Once the liposuction, breast lift, and tummy tuck are complete, there’s little in the way of health risks associated with having more children (above and beyond the innate risks of pregnancy and child birth). However, pregnancy and child birth can cause your results to diminish.

In other words, the results from your Mommy Makeover probably would not be the same after another pregnancy. That’s why it’s not a bad idea to be finished having children before undergoing this procedure. After all, plastic surgery is most often performed in order to yield long term results. You want to enjoy your Mommy Makeover for as long as possible!

How Long Does Recovery Take?

The term “Mommy Makeover” appeals to a pretty specific set of people: mothers! But being a mother really means being busy. So it’s not surprising that one of the most common Mommy Makeover question is: how long will I be out of commission? After all, we lead busy lives these days, and we need to know how long we’ll need to rely on help to keep the schedules on track!

In general, a Mommy Makeover recovery will take somewhere between 2 and 6 weeks. Many patients are able to return to work after 2 or 3 weeks, but it might be a month and a half to two months before you’re returning to your more normal activities. It’s important that you not rush your recovery, so you’ll definitely want to make sure to have plenty of help around to handle the day-to-day activities.

All patients are given an individualized set of care instructions—it’s extremely important that patients follow those instructions as closely as possible.
