Chin Augmentation (Implants)

Strong Proportions

When it comes to attractiveness and confidence, the proportions of the face can make a huge impact. In fact, it’s proportion, more than any individual element, which defines our features and our look. Chin augmentations are generally performed to increase the size of the chin in proportion to the rest of the face. This is usually accomplished by inserting an implant into the chin, resulting in a more balanced, more defined jaw line.

If you’re curious what you’d look like with a stronger, more proportional jawline, contact Dr. Polsen today and schedule a low-key meeting in the Houston Clear Lake Area. Or, call our Clear Lake office at (281) 538-6600.

Who is a Good Candidate?

Candidates who seek out chin augmentation in the Houston Area usually have weak or receding chins. But candidates should also be in good health and have realistic expectations of what the surgery can and will accomplish.

The Procedure

Before any incision is made, Dr. Polsen will work with you to determine the optimal chin size for the result you’re looking for. Obviously, a more athletic look can be achieved with a larger implant, but it’s important that everything work in harmony with the rest of your face. Once the end result is determined, incisions are made either through the inside of the mouth or the outside of the chin and surgeons may choose from a variety of materials for implants. Most often, the incision is made under the chin, so as to hide any scarring. Incisions made on the inside of the mouth have a history of higher rates of infection, due to the general hygiene of the mouth.

This procedure makes for a strong, long-term implant that looks and feels as natural as your old chin. However, every chin augmentation patient in Houston is different, and Dr. Polsen will calibrate his approach to ensure your desired results.

Because the nature of chin augmentation depends so heavily on proportions, patients will often elect to also undergo rhinoplasty for optimal results.

Every chin augmentation is different, and recovery will depend on the extent of work done. Generally, patients can return to work in a number of days. Male patients may need to avoid shaving for up to two weeks in order to avoid infection, irritating the skin, or irritating the implant. As your Houston plastic surgeon Dr. Polsen will work with you to develop an individualized recovery plan that will ensure best results.
