Flankplasty reduction (also known as waste reduction, panniculectomy or body lift) is generally designed for those who recently lost a lot of weight. If you have a lot of excess skin and fat on your lower body, flankplasty is intended to define curves or musculature that otherwise might be obscured. Flankplasty is different from a lower body lift in that it focuses on the area of the hips, rather than the entirety of the lower abdomen. Dr. Polsen consults with his Houston Clear Lake Area patients on any personal transformation they are considering during a confidential one-on-one appointment, and provides detailed information on all the amazing ways lower body surgery and flankplasty can improve your definition.
Flankplasty, like a lower body lift, is a major operation, sometimes requiring a hospital stay. Be sure to discuss all of your options with Dr. Polsen before deciding on a course of action, and you can always call our Clear Lake office at (281) 538-6600.

Who is a Good Candidate?
The best candidates for flankplasty reduction surgery typically have just experienced substantial weight loss and are now struggling with excess skin and flab. Dr. Polsen insists that all of his flankplasty patients are healthy enough to withstand major surgery, and have realistic expectations for what is achievable with this cosmetic procedure. Because flankplasty comes with a pretty significant recovery time, Dr. Polsen also likes to ensure that his patients will be able to commit to that recovery and, for example, will not be pressured to return to work early.
Flankplasty procedures are designed for those who have recently lost a large amount of weight. Patients that feel their back or buttocks are very large sometimes elect to schedule liposuction before undergoing a flankplasty. Dr. Polsen works with all of his Houston Area clients to target areas of the back and buttocks that will yield their desired results and communicates this information before the procedure begins.
Flankplasty is performed under general anesthesia, and will sometimes require an overnight hospital stay, depending on the extent of the work performed. Once the patient is under, Dr. Polsen takes care to use the most careful incisions possible to give you the lean, tight look you’ve been working towards. In many cases, Houston Area patients will have excess skin that will need to be removed. Dr. Polsen does his best to make sure scarring is easily covered, and that your buttocks and back area are sculpted to perfection.
The recovery from flankplasty surgery can be intense and must be taken seriously. Following Dr. Polsen’s detailed post-operative care instructions should help to insure a successful recovery from flankplasty. After 2-4 weeks you will be able to resume light activity, but Dr. Polsen suggests a follow-up visit before resuming full activity.
